Is talktiles private, and does it work offline?

Yes. talktiles runs entirely in your browser and its Content-Security-Policy sets connect-src to none, so the page cannot make any network request. Your boards, custom tiles and settings live only in this browser's local storage. Speech is synthesised on your own device. Once loaded it keeps working with no internet at all.

Why is there no voice input or speech recognition?

Accepted Answer

Browser speech recognition (for example Chrome's) sends your audio to the vendor's servers, which would break the privacy guarantee. So voice input is left out on purpose rather than faked. talktiles only speaks out, using local text-to-speech.

Is talktiles a clinical AAC system?

Accepted Answer

No. talktiles is a free communication aid that follows published conventions such as Fitzgerald-key colour coding and stable tile positions, but it is not clinically validated. Anyone with ongoing AAC needs should work with a speech-language professional.

Can a caregiver customise the tiles?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Long-press the gear and confirm to enter Caregiver mode, then add, edit, delete or reorder tiles and categories. New tiles are added to the end so existing tile positions stay motor-planning stable. Export the board as JSON to move it to another device.
