The idea behind inhand

How In-Hand Salary Is Calculated From CTC — Watch The Waterfall, Line By Line

Your offer letter shows one big number. Your bank account shows a much smaller one. This is the story of every rupee that goes missing in between — animated, honest, and computed on a page that never sends your salary anywhere.

Offer letter says ₹18,00,000 annual CTC
Bank account gets ₹1,12,900 roughly, per month

The problem: nobody shows you the arithmetic

"But what's my in-hand?" is the one question an offer letter never answers. Search for a calculator and you get a black box that swallows your salary and hands back a number you can't check.

  • CTC hides employer costs — money spent on you that never becomes cash for you.
  • Every deduction has a statutory rule behind it — but the rule is nowhere on the screen.
  • Most online calculators log the exact salary you type. You wanted an answer, not a lead form.

So we built the arithmetic in the open — and animated it, so you can watch it happen.

The salary waterfall

Read it left to right. The tall gunmetal block is your CTC. Each step down is one deduction, with the rule behind it. The single warm block at the end is what actually reaches you — the only number you came for.

  1. CTC the full cost to your employer
  2. − Employer EPF & EPS a cost to them, not cash to you — EPF Scheme 1952, para 29
  3. − Gratuity accrual 4.81% of basic, set aside — Payment of Gratuity Act 1972, s.4
  4. − Your EPF (12%) your own retirement share — EPF Scheme, para 29
  5. − Professional tax your state's levy — Article 276(2), state PT Act
  6. − Income tax (TDS) annual tax ÷ 12 — Finance Act 2025, AY 2026-27
  7. = In-hand what lands in your account

Every deduction shows the rule behind it

A number you can't trace is a number you can't trust. In the calculator, every line in the ledger expands to its formula and the statute it comes from, with the date it was verified.

Employer EPS split

8.33% of pensionable wage, capped at a ₹15,000/month ceiling.

EPS — GSR 609(E), eff. 01-09-2014

Payment of Gratuity Act 1972, s.4(2)

Finance Act 2025 — AY 2026-27 (FY 2025-26)

Your salary physically cannot leave the browser

Most sites promise privacy in a policy. inhand enforces it in the page itself: one line of security policy makes the browser block every outbound request.

connect-src 'none'

The browser blocks the send. Nothing reaches the network.

  • No fetch, no XHR, no WebSocket — the browser rejects them all.
  • No analytics, no CDN, no external fonts. Everything is same-origin.
  • Saved offers live only in this browser's localStorage.

This explainer is built the same way — check your network tab: it stays empty.
